Tuesday

An interesting day. The great addition of ‘08 continues. We now have a window and a door. The contractor discovered that the floor under the carpet in our bedroom is oak tongue-and-groove, which opens up some great possibilities. The house is now tentatively dated in the 1860s-1880s. It was in the 1880s when they found the handmade nails holding up the layer of black walnut siding. Under that layer, the wooden bolts pushed that estimate back a couple of possible decades.

Our house is old.

No running today. I still heal. My legs are feeling better than they have in weeks, possibly months, but they are still not one hundred percent. Hopefully they will be by the marathon on Sunday.

The weather here is glorious. I’ve been living outside with the boys, letting them run off steam as much as possible and get their fill of sun before the rain heads in on Thursday. The outlook for Sunday is rainy and possibly snow (!), with highs in the low 40s. Seeing as how I did most of my training runs in similar weather, that should work out nicely. Puts a damper on things for my fan base (my sister, niece, sister-in-law, niece’s friend, husband, two kids, and hopefully an aunt and uncle), though.

Met with the carvers tonight. I had to come home early because of work. Saw some fascinating pieces by Hank (the teacher). I’ll be starting on a Santa in the round next week. I like carving and need to make more time for it. With running returning to a reasonable time committment, that should be doable.

I signed up for a 5K five weeks after the marathon. Was that idiotic? It’s a local one and I thought it would make a nice baseline for the season. If I am stil recovering, it will give me ample room to improve this year.
